Kimpton's Sawyer Hotel opens in Downtown Sacramento
Sacramento recently welcomed a new addition to the Downtown Commons "DOCO" development, the Sawyer Hotel. The Sawyer is a Kimpton-branded boutique hotel with 250-rooms, including 35 suites- some with extra-long beds to accommodate NBA players. It also features a trendy rooftop restaurant, lounge and pool area called "The Revival" that overlooks the main plaza at Golden 1 Center. KMA's Debbie Kern was economic advisor to the City of Sacramento and evaluated the project's financial feasibility.
Developed by the Sacramento Kings and their partners JMA Ventures, The Sawyer is part of a 16-story mixed-use Tower. By the end of the year the development team is planning to open 45 luxury condominiums atop the hotel. The first two floors of the tower will feature restaurant and retail space including a two story "adult playground" known as the Punch Bowl Social which will offer bowling, shuffleboard, karaoke, skeeball, cornhole, billiards and other games. A renovated Century Theater, office, and additional retail space are also expected to open nearby in the upcoming months. Along with the renovation of the nearby Macy's, all are part of the 6-block redevelopment of the former site of the Downtown Plaza.
