KMA was retained by Apple Inc. to evaluate the fiscal and economic impacts of its current and future facilities in Cupertino. The findings of the analysis were subsequently released by Apple and were widely publicized in local and national media. The analysis documented the revenue, service cost and employment impacts of Apple’s current facilities in Cupertino based on empirical data provided by the City of Cupertino and Apple. The analysis also focused on the impacts that the proposed 2.8 million square foot Apple Campus 2 would have on the region.
The preparation of the analysis entailed meeting with staff from the City of Cupertino to understand budget items and city agreements with Apple, integrating first-source data with the IMPLAN model to estimate regional economic impacts, coordinating with Apple staff and other consultants, and dissecting data to ascertain impacts on a broad list of governmental jurisdictions, including school districts, the communities of Sunnyvale and Santa Clara, as well as other taxing agencies.
